Our Discipleship Mission
Our Heart for Discipleship
At A Tree By The Water, we gather with one clear purpose: to know our Creator through His Word and to live by the wisdom He has given us.
Our Calling
We believe every word of the Bible is divinely inspired by God Himself—not just ancient text, but living truth meant to guide our steps, shape our character, and transform our lives. As we study Scripture together, we’re not simply learning information; we’re encountering the very heart and mind of God, discovering who He is and how He calls us to live.
Our Commitment
Our commitment is to take what we learn and put it into practice in our everyday world—at home, at work, in our communities—so that our lives become a reflection of Christ’s love and truth. We believe we’re called to lead others to Jesus, not just through our words, but through the way we live.
Small Groups
Our small groups provide a place where you can dive deep into God’s Word, enjoy authentic Christian fellowship, receive spiritual support when life gets hard, and find loving accountability to help you grow. We’re here to walk alongside you, encouraging one another to become the disciples Christ has called us to be.
True Discipleship
This is discipleship as it was meant to be—real, practical, and rooted in the unchanging truth of God’s Word.
Ministry Statement:
Caring for Children and Single Mothers
Our Commitment
We are called to extend the compassionate hand of Christ to those most vulnerable among us—children and single mothers who face daily struggles to provide for their families. This ministry exists to ensure that no child goes hungry and no mother walks alone in her time of need.
Biblical Foundation
Feeding the Hungry
God’s Word clearly commands us to open our hands generously to those in need. “Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land” (Deuteronomy 15:10-11).
The Lord Himself “upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry” (Psalm 146:7), and calls us to do the same. True worship extends beyond our church walls—it means “to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter” (Isaiah 58:7). Jesus demonstrated this compassion when He fed the five thousand (Matthew 14:13-21), and He teaches us that when we feed the hungry, we feed Him: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:35, 40).
Caring for Vulnerable Mothers and Children
God’s care for the unborn and for mothers is tender and personal. He knew each child “in my mother’s womb…all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:13, 16). The Lord “gently leads those that have young” (Isaiah 40:11), shepherding mothers through their most vulnerable seasons.
We are called to “religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27). This extends naturally to single mothers raising children alone. We “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2), supporting young mothers with practical help, encouragement, and community.
Our Mission
Through this ministry, we will share food with the hungry (Luke 3:11), never sending away “a brother or sister…without clothes and daily food” (James 2:15), but instead demonstrating the generous spirit that God blesses: “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor” (Proverbs 22:9). We commit to caring for the most vulnerable among us, knowing that in doing so, we honor Christ and fulfill His call to love our neighbors as ourselves.
